PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS

[This part of my life is called BLOGGING…….]

It was January first, 2009. I came back to my room after partying with few friends in DJ Nite organized by our Student Affairs Council. And, since I was not feeling drowsy, so I decided to watch a movie. I switched on my LAN and randomly picked up a movie- The Pursuit of Happyness (ignore the spelling please).

After the completion of movie, I could think of nothing but one thing – what a great movie it is. Perhaps among the best ones I have ever seen. What is really amazing is that it’s not fiction. Based on the life events of Chris Gardner in early 80s, it’s inspiring and enlightening. It’s stunningly positive (though most of the part is sad) and does not depict accidents or things like fate and good or bad luck. Whatever Chris achieves in the end is attributed to his hard work, dedication and initiatives. He did not win the sympathy of the recruiters but compelled them to reward his genius and hard work. He motivated himself amidst all problems and put a superhuman effort to convert defeat into success. He was emotionally hurt, physically exhausted every day, had to sleep in subway toilets and had to give his boss 5 dollars when he had no money remaining to feed his son, yet he never give up. And towards the end, when he is hired for the job, the emotion on his face is the genuine emotion of his triumph over the adversary.

The movie teaches us a lot. It teaches us to stand in face of adversary and push it back instead of cursing our circumstances. Also it tells us that we are supposed to deliver our best in pressure cooker situations. I remember the scene where he has to perfect the 3 * 3 color cube within a short time so that he is selected for the training despite having not so impressive resume. Just the night before that, he was trying to solve the same thing and he couldn’t get success. And the next he puts all his soul and mind into that and perfects it. We have to face many such situations in life and are supposed to give our best but I doubt what %age of people can do that.

One more noticeable thing about it is that it’s close to reality. In our lives we don’t fail once and succeed the very next time. Rather we fail time and again, and then may achieve the success we want, no matter how big or small it is. The key lies in not getting depressed and giving up, but motivating ourselves and persisting, waiting for success to knock your doors.

Towards the end, I would like to quote the following piece of advice (it’s the soul of the movie) given by Chris to his son during a basketball practice session:

"Don't ever let someone tell you, you can't do something. You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can't do it. You want something? Go get it. "

bbye…..
